Shadowlings Program Looks Like
Our Younglings Shadowlings Program, also referred to as our Job Shadow Program, extends an invaluable invitation to students from various areas all over. They are given the opportunity to join us at our office for approximately one week, during which we provide a comprehensive introduction to our field of work. Throughout their time with us, participants delve into the world of coding, engaging in practical experiences and ultimately collaborating on a project that showcases their creativity and skills

Introduction to Younglings
Introducing the different guilds we have at Younglings:
- Design
- Front-end
- Back-end
- Mobile
- Full-Stack
- Testing
Guiding them with a tour of the floor
Introducing them to the current candidates that we have at our office:
- Students then get the opportunity to learn about the basics while sitting with some of the candidates.
- Form a team of builders to create their app/website
- Design the idea – from scratch
- Start the BUILD!!!
This year we had an amazing turnout with various students joining our program. They came from different areas within Cape Town and we even had the opportunity of hosting some amazing Italian students.
Right from the beginning of the program, these candidates exhibited genuine enthusiasm and a strong commitment to understanding the entire project development process. They had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the research phase, learning how to initiate a project idea and proceed with its design. As the program advanced, they delved into a profound coding journey, breathing life into their projects through hands-on coding experiences

Anna: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Younglings. I was initially drawn to the program because of my strong interest in computers and science. It’s fascinating to me, especially since I study mathematics, science, and physics in school. I was curious to uncover the inner workings of the applications and websites I frequently use. Additionally, I aspired to learn how to create an app from scratch independently.
For me, coding proved to be exceptionally intriguing. Although it was initially challenging to grasp, but now everything makes sense to me. My experience at Younglings was truly incredible. Meeting all the candidates was a delightful experience as they were all incredibly kind and eager to assist us. Ultimately, it was fascinating to observe how each individual approaches problem-solving and the diverse solutions they employ.“

What I found particularly intriguing was the way every candidate working on projects collaborated with one another, which was a novel experience for me. It was also enjoyable to meet people from various backgrounds who even taught me a few phrases in their languages. Engaging in project work was particularly fascinating, as I hadn’t realized the extent of research and coding required to bring a website to life.“
Francesco: “I found this experience to be exceptionally valuable. It provided me with insights into how people operate in professional environments. I also expanded my understanding of various coding languages. Moreover, it was enjoyable because everyone I met was very sociable, making it a truly great experience for me.
I had a lot of fun during this program, particularly because I had the opportunity to converse in English with everyone. We engaged in delightful conversations about South Africa and Italy, which added to the enjoyment of the experience.“
